The full name is the Shanghai Small Enterprises Trade Development Service Center, akin to a Chamber of Commerce in the US. People from this organization will be visiting the Vermont Chamber of Commerce in November. They represent 326,000 small and medium size businesses in Shanghai which employ nearly 8M people.
The primary agricultural aspect of the meeting was a presentation about Daming County in southeastern Hebei Province, located between Shanghai and Beijing on the Yellow River alluvial plain. This is a rich agricultural area famous for flour, peanuts and sesame oil. It was too far away to visit, but they would be happy to have you invest in Daming County. (A county here is intermediate between a town and the province, similar to a county at home, except that it has a larger role in government than do our counties.)
After the meeting they treated us to lunch. Here at the restaurant is Roger Allbee with Mr. Jonathan Goo, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Center.
By the way, no one knows exactly how many people there are in Shanghai, but most estimates are 20 million or so.
